Assessments

The children are assessed on an ongoing basis, continuous assessment in every subject, these assessments form the basis for lesson planning. However there are formal assessments made on every child.

Six weeks after starting school a Baseline Assessment is made, this assesses the skills a child brings into school, social skills, literacy and numeracy skills. This baseline assessment is used as a basis for all other formal assessments and target setting.

At the end of each academic year all children are tested in Literacy and Numeracy. The tests we use are published by  N.F.E.R. The tests allow us to plot the progress of the individual child and also give us a level in accordance with the National Curriculum. These tests also allow remedial support in a specific area of the curriculum with which a child might have difficulty.

The Government requires that the average child by the age of seven to have reached Level 2 of the National Curriculum and by the age of eleven to have reached level 4 of the National Curriculum.

The National Curriculum results for 2003 and 2004 are shown in Appendix 1.
