Parents and School

Children work hard in school and it is important for them to know that their parents are interested and involved in their efforts.

In Abernant Primary School we expect to work in partnership with you in providing an 'all round' education for your child.

You Can Help

The most important way you can help your child is to give of your TIME.

Time to read. Read to and with your child everyday. Research had shown that if from an early age we can develop a love of books in our children, then they will usually have little problem with reading and writing.

Time to be together. You as parents are the most important people in your child's life. By spending time together, doing things your child enjoys and also involving him/her in your interests you will be influencing your son/daughter for the rest of his/her life.

The school welcomes visits by parents. The head teacher will see parents at the beginning and end of every school day. However it would be appreciated if parents would make an appointment initially. Any parents visiting the school is also asked to report to the school secretary first as a matter of courtesy.

We run an open school where parents are always welcome to discuss any problems they may be encountering. We invite parents to attend parent evenings, to join us in dramatic and musical productions, quiz nights, treasure hunts and barbecues. There is always a full programme of  'Friends Association' Activities.

The Friends Association is a group of parents who through their many activities raise extra money for the school. This money benefits all the children. The Friends always welcome new members, an Annual General Meeting is held every Autumn Term, please join us, you will have a very warm welcome.
