Abernant Primary School is a mixed county primary
school, catering for the education of boys and girls between the ages of three and eleven.
The school is situated in the village of Abernant. Whilst the external appearance remains
virtually unchanged from its opening in 1877, the curriculum, resources and expertise
reflects the twenty first century.
The school numbers 114 pupils including nursery
children. It is our policy to accept children into the Foundation Class during September following their third birthday.
The pupils will enter the reception class in the school year they are five years of age.
The children embark on National Curriculum studies when they enter Year 1.

On leaving Abernant Primary School the majority of
children transfer to Aberdare Boys Comprehensive School, Aberdare Girls Comprehensive
School or St John the Baptist High School. We aim with the co-operation of the
comprehensive schools to make all transitions as smooth as possible. We have close links
with all the comprehensive schools.
Representatives of all the comprehensive schools meet
with the children at different times in the year. Year six pupils have opportunities to
visit the various schools at different times in the year.
The Head teacher meets regularly with the Head teachers
of the comprehensive schools, and belongs to a cluster of Head teachers, whose schools
feed the three comprehensive schools, thus enabling a consistent approach to the
transition of pupils from the primary sector to the comprehensive sector.
