Mrs M. Jordan - Head teacher

I am the head teacher at Abernant Primary School, I was appointed head teacher in 1997. When I was growing up I was desperate to join the WRENs – that is the Royal Navy, unfortunately my mum did not want me to join the Royal Navy so I stayed on in school. After leaving school, I went to Newport Art College, completed a foundation Year, and then went to Barry Teachers Training College. I really enjoy teaching so now I am glad I did not join the navy.

I live at home with my family and our cat called Kat! My hobbies are reading especially Patricia Cornwall books; I also enjoy swimming, when I have the time! The computer is a fascination to me, each day I learn something new either from an interesting site or just by tinkering with the different keys on the computer. Each evening I help children from lots of different places to answer homework questions on a homework site.

My work in school is very intense, but I get a lot of pleasure from seeing children excel and succeed through a combination of the teacher, the parent and the child’s efforts. Every day is different; I suppose that is why I enjoy my work.

I teach recorder twice a week during lunchtime and oversee a newspaper group run by the children, which is published twice a term.
