Introduction to Religious Studies

‘It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it’
Aristotle

AS Religious Studies offers a unique chance to explore a wide range of ideas, beliefs and concepts.

The course consists of three units:-

  • Philosophy
  • Ethics
  • The New Testament

They will be tested through essay writing and problem solving. Students sit a one hour paper on each of the units, answering two out of three essay questions. Each question is split into two 15 mark sections

You will deal with different philosophical arguments and ethical theories through a huge variety of ways including group work, debate, discussion, research and presentations.

The course is open to ALL students, whether from the RE short course or RS full course option.

It offers a wide range of highly desirable skills such as reasoning, awareness of world issues, balancing arguments and analysing different viewpoints

You must have an open mind and will have to leave your preconceptions behind. The journey to a better understanding of the world around you will be fast furious and fun. Are you willing to accept the challenge of a course that will change everything you thought you knew?

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Evelyn Beatrice Hall
