Music
Recorders
Recorder lessons are taught on a weekly basis to Year 4, 5 and 6. The Year 6 recorder group is taught by Miss Ryall and the Year 5 recorder group is taught by Mrs Morris. Both recorder groups will be playing in assemblies soon. The Year 4 group is large and has been split into two groups, one taught by Mrs Maher and the other by Mrs Cannon. By the time the recorder players reach Year 6 we hope to be teaching treble and tenor recorders in addition to the descant which is taught from Year 4 onwards.
Singing
At Coedpenmaen, weekly singing lessons are taught to the children. They are taught a range of songs to prepare for Harvest Festivals and Christmas. The children also learn a variety of Welsh songs for St David's Day and the Eisteddfod. Theme-related songs are also taught throughout the year. We also hold a singing competition at the school Eisteddfod.
Recently we have utilized the specialist knowledge of a percussion teacher from the Music service. The teacher has worked with the Junior classes. We have also received visits from the Music Service's String teachers and Harp teachers who have performed small concerts for the children.
