Last amendment date 17/01/2001
This area is always under construction and does not represent the full delivery experienced by the pupils in their year groups. Some information is available in a very brief form for all the year groups shown in the links above. Information is being added here gradually and it will eventually reflect the full work of the Information Technology department.
Current situation:
- Much more use will be made of the School Intranet Site and will contain many
of the tasks for pupils to work independently. Examples from IT, Geography and
French departments will soon be available. Plans are already underway for work
schemes, homework and information for further study to be added to the school
WEB site. http://www.rctednet.net/newmanrc
The school is now able to directly control this site and its development is
now underway. Links with other schools are to be encouraged, tasks can be shared
and improved by combining resources thus reducing the work load.
This document is incomplete and is only given as a general guide. It in no way represents the much more involved work which goes into the planning and assessment of the pupils work in Information Technology every year.
The structure is now in place the 100 machine resource has already produced some considerable amount of work by the pupils in Information Technology from many departments. This year the Technology area has added a further 30 machines to the network which now takes the whole school facility available to pupils up to 170 - 180 machines on the network for curriculum use. The assessment process is filtering down from Year 13 Computing and from Year 7 up to the pupils in 8, 9, 10 and 11. Extra curricular work during the lunch times is already quite considerable and with an average of 30 - 40 pupils attending it represents many extra hours of IT time every day across a wide variety of students. Pupils are improving skills, completing work which was missed due to absences and developing and improving work from the variety of subjects who use the resources as part of their teaching.
Because of the benefits of the network all this extra work is being harnessed for assessment and with the right gentle direction the experience of the pupils can be broadened.
