Pupil User Rules for saving files.(04/10/99) G Thomas
Pupils will be allocated disk storage space within the requirements of their departmental needs. Files should be created with storage limitations in mind. Application for more storage space can only be considered seriously in consultation with your subject teachers. (E.g. a 70 page WEB site may only take up 1Mb if speed and storage considerations are taken into account). Graphic files should therefore be converted to a sensible size for inclusion in pupils documents.
Pupils must sign the contract applying to the use of the Internet. (Under Construction)
(E.g the Internet is to be used only for school purposes). Any files held by pupils which cannot be read by members of staff will be considered not suitable for school work.
All .ZIP files or any password protected files will be deleted from the system. All files should be in clear view using standard software so that it is accessible by the appropriate member of staff.
Large graphics or multimedia files are not acceptable. All files over 300kb will be locked until pupils can justify their inclusion in their school work.
It is illegal to download application files from any source
(e.g. CD-ROM , Internet or personal disks). Any files of this kind will be deleted
immediately from the pupil area and if such incidents continue the pupil's account
will be disabled.
Pupils are not to save any files on the local computers and should this practice be detected they will have their account disabled.
The use of the A'drive is by staff permission only and for school purposes
only and all such disks should be Virus checked at the appropriate machines.
(Check with Mr Lewis).
Internet files as HTML can be accessed for reference purposes but should never
be printed. Information from the Internet should be saved as text or graphics
and then put into a new document created by the student into a form suitable
for the department on whose authority the information was accessed. It is suggested
that pupils create a WEB address file so that a site which is found suitable
as reference material can be accessed as the need arises and produce a wasteful
hard copy.
On many occasions pupils will be expected to produce work for departments in electronic form. It is therefore strongly recommended that pupils should attach their username/full name/(Year group and class) to all pieces of work. Gradually directories will be created for pupils to copy their work into for staff assessment. Pupils who do not wish their work to be shown as good examples for other pupils must inform the staff by attaching a PS at the end of their work.
Pupils should print only selected work with the prior permission of the member of staff requesting the work. The IT department is attempting to save the forests and money!!!
