Role and Responsibilities

Miss Field is responsible for the teaching of art throughout the school, from nursery to year 6. She covers PPA time five afternoons a week. She teaches art for the first lesson and any other activities left for her by the teachers for the second. She marks all the work. She has worked alongside the art adviser to develop the termly and fortnightly planning. She also attends the ESIS courses on art. She mounts and displays the art work as part of her duties during two mornings a week. The other three morning sessions are spent with a ‘nurture group’ of KS2 children, who are withdrawn for a variety of reasons, eg support with literacy, numeracy, lack of self-esteem etc.

Aspects of Good Practice

Miss Field is very artistic and is able to teach a variety of skills ranging from drawing, silk printing, sewing through to weaving and ceramics. She uses her talents in a variety of areas eg making costumes, scenery and props for school concerts and plays. She participates and leads extra curricular activities when a teacher is unavailable ie, fitness club, aerobics and tae-bo. She does the murals in school to enhance the playground walls and environment. She has a very good rapport with the children and has excellent discipline. She is currently undertaking the NVQ BTEC Level 3. She takes part in relevant in-service training in school and self-evaluation.
