Role and Responsibilities

Supervision and organisation of playgroup that is run within the school building ie ‘Tigger Tots’.
This is inclusive of the supervision of the three other staff members, as well as the direction of their activities and the monitoring of their progress.

Language support within Years 2 – 6, which will include individual programmes of work, ‘catch-up’ and administering reading tests.

Support work in language and maths for Years 3 – 6 for special needs children, which can be classroom based or withdrawal of children.

Administrative work within the special needs system.

Aspects of Good Practice

Improved levels of skills of children starting school.  Improved vocabulary, social skills and behaviour.  Good transition links between tigger tots and nursery, creating an easier ‘start’ to school life.

Good support provision for language support and special needs children.

Pupils make better progress and are assessed more regularly.  Better reading skills in terms of fluency, expression and understanding.  More ‘catch-up’ sessions provided.

Documentation is kept up to date, and good quality IEP’s are in place.
