The Adult Numeracy certificate covers
The Adult Literacy certificate covers everyday word skills like reading and understanding texts, such as forms, newspaper clippings and letters and some features of writing such as spelling, punctuation and grammar.
The tests take about 60 to 75 minutes to complete. If the candidate feels confidant enough to do the test straight away it involves two separate visits to the training centre - one visit to register and another at least 2 days later to take the test. If candidates need help in preparing for the test, support is available at the centre or by distance learning over the internet at home, school or library. The training centre will respond to questions or provide individual coaching.
The course is primarily run on line. Anyone who can use a mouse should be able to do the course. If a candidate is not confident about using a computer they can do a short 30 minute course on basic computer skills. The course can be booked in advance. The internet link to the qualifications is attached. The courses are free.

Some teaching assistants have already enrolled on the HLTA training programme run by ESIS. It is important to realise that completion of this programme does not guarantee entry on to the HLTA assessment route and preparation funded by the National Assembly. Candidates for HLTA assessment will still need to complete the National Assembly application forms once they are issued.
