Workload Agreement

The Workload Agreement was signed in January 2003 and introduced certain changes with the aim of raising standards and tackling teachers workload.
The agreement was introduced in different phases. These were:
Phase 1 of the agreement requiring implementation from September 2003
- No teacher routinely required to undertake clerical and administrative tasks
- Provision made for teachers and head teachers to enjoy a reason able work/life balance
- For teachers with management and leadership responsibility to be entitled to a reasonable allocation of time within school sessions to discharge their responsibilities
Phase 2 of the agreement requiring implementation from September 2004
- 38 cover limit for absent teachers with the aim of teachers rarely covering
Phase 3 of the agreement requiring implementation from September 2005
- Teachers to have 10% of their daily timetable for planning, preparation and assessment (PPA) from September 2005.
- Teachers no longer routinely required to invigilate external examinations
