Training Courses 2002/2003
 
 
 
Under the SIMS Service Level Agreement with Schools 2002/2003, you are entitled to 3 training courses and 2 free school based training days during the course of the financial year. Any additional courses or school based training will be invoiced for as detailed in the Service Level Agreement.

 

This booklet outlines the training provision for SIMS software for October to December 2002. You will receive details of courses for January onwards toward the end term.

 

It is recommended that all schools be trained on the Windows version of the SIMS software.

 

Please read through the booklet and select the courses you wish to attend and simply complete and return, by the given deadline, the attached slip headed ‘REPLY FOR SIMS COURSES’. The Unit will then send confirmation of the course booking.

 

Should there be any courses you wish the Unit to run that are not included in the booklet, please complete and return the attached slip headed ‘REQUEST FOR SIMS COURSES’ giving the necessary details.

Training Courses 2002/2003

 

 

 

Course:                 Excel 2000 (Basic)

                             Primary & Secondary Schools

 

Aimed at:             Those schools who have Excel installed as well as those

who are interested in purchasing the software for use in the school.

 

Contents:             Introduction to spreadsheets from creating, saving and

editing files to entering basic formula and producing spreadsheets.

 

Objectives:           By the end of the course participants will be able to:

                              Use Excel to produce spreadsheets using basic formula

and improve the quality of spreadsheets produced by the school.

 

Duration:              One day – 9.30am – 3.30pm

 

Dates:                   19th or 20th November 2002

 

Venue:                  Ty Trevithick, Abercynon

 

Cost:                    As detailed in the SIMS Service Level Agreement with

Schools 2002/2003.

 

 

Closing date to apply for this course will be 8th November 2002.

Only two people from each school may attend the course.

Training Courses 2002/2003

 

 

 

Course:                 Mail Merge

                             Primary & Secondary

 

Aimed at:             Those staff who are familiar with the SIMS Repgen Lite package and also Microsoft Word and Excel. Also those staff who are responsible for producing documents that could be simplified using data fields.

 

Contents:             Producing documents both in Word and Excel using data that is exported from Repgen Lite. The Mail Merge facility enables you to produce personalised letters and labels using information held within SIMS.

 

Objectives:           By the end of the course participants will be able to:

                             Produce personalised letters and labels using data fields

held within SIMS.

 

Duration:              One day – 9.30am – 3.30pm

 

Dates:                   21st or 26th November 2002

 

Venue:                  Ty Trevithick, Abercynon

 

Cost:                    As detailed in the SIMS Service Level Agreement with

Schools 2002/2003.

Course:                 Word 2000 (Basic)

                             Primary & Secondary Schools

 

Aimed at:             Those schools who have Word installed as well as those

who are interested in purchasing the software for use in the school.

 

Contents:             Introduction to Word from creating, saving and editing

files to moving text. Also included will be entering tables

and putting various effects within your document.

 

Objectives:           By the end of the course participants will be able to:

Use Word to improve the quality and presentation of letters and other documents sent out by the school.

 

Duration:              One day – 9.30am – 3.30pm

 

Dates:                   27th or 28th November 2002

 

Venue:                  Ty Trevithick, Abercynon.

 

Cost:                    As detailed in the SIMS Service Level Agreement with

Schools 2002/2003.

Course:                 Publisher 2000 (Basic)

                             Primary & Secondary Schools

 

Aimed at:             Those schools who have Publisher installed as well as those who are interested in purchasing the software for use in the school.

 

Contents:             Introduction to Publisher including creating different

publications such as calendars, cards, newsletters and banners.

 

Objectives:           By the end of the course participants will be able to:

Use Publisher to improve the quality and presentation of newsletters and other publications sent out by the school.

 

Duration:              One day – 9.30am – 3.30pm

 

Dates:                   17th or 19th December 2002

 

Venue:                  Ty Trevithick, Abercynon.

 

Cost:                    As detailed in the SIMS Service Level Agreement with

Schools 2002/2003.
