The Mousehole Cat retold by Bethany Lindley.
Once there was a cat called Mouser, who lived in a beautiful cottage by the sea with her man named Tom. Mouser had many kittens in her time, but they all grew up and left. Her eldest son had a man who owned an Inn, but once he spilled beer over her so she didn’t go there often. Her daughter had a woman who stepped on her tail once, so she didn’t go there often either. Mouser was a lucky cat because she ate different fish everyday.
One day a terrible storm came and the fisherman couldn’t get out of the harbour. They ate up all their vegetables and dry fish until there was nothing left to eat. It was almost Christmas and everyone was starving. Nobody wanted to see their children die, so Tom decided to go out fishing. Mouser purred to say that she would go too. The next morning, very early, they left. It was very dangerous, but Mouser kept purring and the storm cat paused for a moment. They slipped out of the harbour into the sea. The storm cat started to play with them, but when Mouser sang he calmed down. Tom managed to catch lots of fish while the storm cat purred with Mouser. They could see the little lamp light in the window of the cottage as they made their way back to shore. By listening to Mouser sing the storm cat stayed calm long enough for them to return home safely. They had saved the village.
Every year on December the 23rd people still celebrate by having a fish feast in memory of Tom and Mouser.

Mewn atig hen a thywyll Mae corryn bach direidus, Yn byw mewn twll bach du Mewn hen dŷ brawychus. Mae’n dechrau creu ei wê, I geisio dal ei de. Mae’n cripian cropian at ei brae, Ei ddal a’i lyncu’n darnau llai. Ond nawr mae wedi cael ei fwyd, Mae’n cwtsio lan a chysgu’n sownd.
